Holistic Sound – 藝術家 Shane Aspegren 的聲頻冥想活動 Sound Meditation with Artist Shane Aspegren
From 12nd of May, Shane Aspegren, artist of HART Haus Social Studio, will be hosting Holistic Sound, a group sound therapy session at HART Haus in Kennedy Town on every Tuesday. Shane will apply his multifaceted background as a contemporary artist and experimental musician, as well as through his longtime holistic practices of yoga and meditation* on this traditional sound bath programme.
With the positive effects of sound and vibrations, the healing response of the body and mind will be naturally activated. The sessions aim to help the calm nervous mind of the public in the era of tensed emotions, which is essential to the well-being of our mental health. This programme also acts as a platform to present the creative practices of the artist cultivated in HART Haus, exploring how arts can be applied to different practices for a broader audience. While the participants are relaxed in their meditative states, in the sharing session after the exercise they can learn more about sounds and sound healing from the artist.
For optimal experience, each weekly session will be held for only 5 participants. Understanding the current health concerns, enquiry on private sessions – which focus on individual healing, is welcome. In one-on-one sessions, the same instruments (that are used the group sound bath) are placed around, as well as directly onto the physical body, providing a more direct and intense experience.
Please bring your own eye mask/ a cloth for optimal experience, and wearing a face mask is encouraged for health concerns.
Modern science is now validating the positive healing effects of sound and vibrational therapeutic techniques, which have been employed for centuries in cultures around the world. For many people, these ancient technologies are a natural gateway to meditative states and cell stimulation, triggering the healing response of the parasympathetic nervous system—switching away from the fight or flight mode that our modern society encourages.
The experience of a group sound bath can be considered not only as an auditory meditation, but also as a gentle massage for the physical and subtle bodies, including the mind. It encourages and supports the human’s natural ability of self-healing—boosting immunity, reducing stress, altering our habitual state of consciousness and cultivating a place of well-being—all of which are immensely important in these stressful times.
*Shane is certified as RYT-200 with Yoga Alliance, in addition to an advanced certificate in Integrated Vibrational Therapy.
Shane Aspegren’s unique approach to the traditional group sound bath is influenced by his multifaceted background as a contemporary artist and experimental musician, as well as through his longtime holistic practices of yoga and meditation*. Using traditional instruments such as large meditation gongs and Tibetan singing bowls as the fundamental basis, he expands by incorporation of subtly amplified elements—sine waves and tuning forks of specific frequencies, as well as a custom-made instrument called the Duofluctus, which vibrates its strings through electro-magnetic resonance.
See Shane playing the Duofluctus in a more experimental setting at the 2019 Venice Biennale with the below video.
